Spilling the Tea About the Lies We Tell Ourselves
We all know running a business isn't a walk in the park. We’re so focused on doing well and leading well that sometimes we find ourselves trapped in a web of lies we tell ourselves. This holds us back from reaching our full potential.
So, today, we're going to unpack these misconceptions and set the record straight. No need to extend this intro any longer, here they are!
Lie #1: My team must prove themselves.
Truth: Trust is the magic ingredient here. Instead of waiting for proof, let's start by trusting our team members. It's risky, but it weeds out the bad apples quickly.
Lie #2: I need to copy what successful people are doing.
Truth: We're all on our unique journey. Let's focus on what works for us at our current stage, rather than blindly following others.
Lie #3: I have to tolerate toxic employees because they're talented.
Truth: Toxicity spreads like wildfire. Don't let one bad apple spoil the bunch—cut them loose for a healthier workplace.
Lie #4: I need clones of myself on my team.
Truth: Variety is the spice of life! Embrace diversity in your team for fresh perspectives and better collaboration.
Lie #5: Every idea I have should be thrown at my team.
Truth: Slow down, tiger! Too many ideas overwhelm the team. Let's focus on quality over quantity.
Lie #6: I must plan every single move meticulously.
Truth: Planning is good, but too much of it leads to paralysis. Let's strike a balance between planning and taking action.
Lie #7: It's okay to change my mind constantly.
Truth: Consistency is key. Changing your mind too often can confuse everyone, including yourself.
Lie #8: I can juggle a million tasks at once.
Truth: Spoiler alert: You can't. Focus on a few important tasks at a time for better results.
Lie #9: I need the latest tech to succeed.
Truth: Tech is great, but it's not a silver bullet. Think twice before splurging on fancy gadgets that might not help.
Lie #10: Everyone wants to be empowered.
Truth: Not everyone is cut out for autonomy. Some people prefer clear instructions. Respect their preferences for a happier team.
What do you think, did we cover the major ones? How many of these lies have you told yourself?
Facing these truths isn't always easy, but it's necessary for growth. Let's ditch the lies, embrace honesty, and build businesses that thrive on authenticity.
